When I pick up a piece of wood from my ever ready stash, I have no preconceived idea. As I look at the wood I see something somewhere. It might be created by the grain of the wood, a knot, dried moss, mold and/or tunnels and marks left behind by critters. It takes a few seconds to find something or I flip the piece over and view the other side. Sometimes a piece returns to the stash for another day. With another piece chosen, I am painting within minutes. Beginning with the first indication of something I am then lead to something else that becomes evidence, and so the image grows. Some of the little scenes must come from memories of happy and carefree times because I spend a lot of time smiling as the paintings take form, all the while knowing that I did not know that this was to come to fruition. As an adult, I began to think more spiritually. The wood certainly doesn't make words and talk to me but it is as if it does because I am clearly lead. Sharing this causes the hair to rise on my arms.
